The SMS quirk worth knowing
Text messages are the one place characters still cost money. A plain message fits 160 characters, but the moment it runs longer it is split into parts of 153 (seven characters are spent joining them back together). Sneak a single emoji or curly quote in and the whole message switches to a heavier encoding: the limits drop to 70 and 67, so a "short" message can quietly become three parts. If a campaign or reminder must stay one SMS, keep it plain and inside 160.
